LOOK WHO'S READING!

In line with our Book Week celebration, our blog question will be:

WHO IS YOUR MODEL READER?

I have always admired Dr. Venancio Mendiola, my literature professor for being such a voracious reader. Even if he is already 69 years old, he still remembers the intricate details of the books that he have read and taught his students, even as far as 1970's! He would know the exact images that the autor used, how many times a certain phrase appeared in the book, how many dreams a character has in a book, and many more! I mean, how can such a person be fully focused on READING to its fullest sense. I myself digress many times while reading even the most interesting books. Maybe just like Sir Mendiola, I need to learn how to READ enthusiastically, savoring each word, phrase and image so that I could completely grasp the beauty and message of the book.

How about you? Who is your model reader?

I think my college-age cousin qualifies as a good model reader. She grasps the theme, the book's message, the overall plot, can define each and every character, and picks up good insights from it in just one to two readings. She does not only read the book; but in a word, 'devours' the whole book itself - she absorbs everything from its theme to lessons/values that are implied along with it and makes sure that she applies what she have learned from reading to her everyday life.

I have always admired Paulo Coelho. I've only read one of his books, though. Anyway, I read By The River Piedra I Sat Down And Wept; it was one of the best written books I've read. The plots and the way he explains is unique. It applies to reality and it teaches us how our attitude towards life should be. That's why I loved the line, Dreams mean work.

I don't exactly have someone you'd call a "model reader", but I think Lui N would qualify. She reads so fast, and yet she remembers stuff I completely forgot. :D

My model reader for me is my Mom and my Aunt.

One of my mom's hobby is reading newspapers. She always tells me the benefits of it, and that encourages me to love reading. She is also the one who goes with me to bookstores and spend time there looking for great books.

My aunt stays in our house every weekends, and whenever I need help in my studies, especially in literature, she is the one who helps me. She is really good in not only English as a language but also in English Literature because she is also a teacher. She knows many Languages and so many authors that's why I consider her my model reader.

I treat one of my friends as my model reader because she knows so much about different kinds of stories and she was the one who influenced me to read more. She also applies different styles of writing from the stories she reads to the stories she makes. :)

My dad, because as a kid he usually would read thick books for a week like Beowolf. he also loves to make up stories when me adn my sisters were kids. His most famous one is the adventures of Maraka Pina (pronounced as pinya)

My model reader is my Dad because he can finish a really long book within a few days, and still get to understand even the most complicated parts of the story. He can also tell the story of a certain book from the heart, like he has read that book several times.
